Civil Service Exam UPSC

Civil Service is one of the highly reputed competitive exam of the country. Future policy makers and administrators are chosen through this exam. Union Public Service Commission and Public Service Commission of the several state organize the exams on time to time for various services.

This examination has three stages - Preliminary, Mains and Interview. Prelims is an objective type of examination. The most important exam is Mains which seeks the answers of the questions through conventional method with analytical form. Last stage of the examination is an interview round which includes the personality test of the candidate. Combined marks of Mains and interview are counted in merit list for getting selection. On the basis of merit candidate gets the choices of the services.

UPSC Prelims Syllabus

1st Paper Syllabus (200 marks) Duration: 2 hours

  • Current events of national and international importance.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate.
  • Change – that do not require subject specialisation General Science.

2nd Paper Syllabus (200 marks) Duration: 2 hours

  • Comprehension.
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
  • Decision-making and problem solving.
  • General mental ability.
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.)
  • Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc.)
